Early and consistent

If your hair keeps getting thinner and falling out, early treatment and at least a year of consistent care are key.

Methods

Scalp botox, which aims to suppress TGF-β1 — a major driver of hair loss — while increasing blood flow and oxygen to the scalp (about an hour including numbing, repeated every three months, no downtime); scalp boosters such as Juvelook Skin and PDRN; oral medication (finasteride or dutasteride) for male-pattern hair loss; and topical minoxidil for men and women.

Medication cautions

Oral medication must be taken continuously — hair loss resumes when it stops — and is not used with liver or kidney problems or by women who may become pregnant; side effects such as erectile dysfunction or reduced libido can occur and resolve when it is stopped. Minoxidil is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, under 18, or with scalp inflammation; women are advised to use a 3% preparation.
